History of KaRo

The KaRo system was developed by Donald Herbst, who built the society in Germany 1985. In German, KaRo stands for Kapillar Rohr (=capillary tube).
Mr. Herbst, inventor of KaRo systems in 1985

The first installation taken was 1986 in Berlin. The project was the heating of a large building using mats in the ceilings and walls. The new system gave very good results, as well as good working conditions. These results were confirmed by a study from the Technical University of Berlin (Hermann Rietschel Institute), showing the efficiency of the KaRo system and the high comfort it provides.

KaRo radiant ceilings proved their suitability in offices or hotels, where comfort is an important consideration. Thus, banks quickly became important clients for KaRo, starting with the Weber bank at Berlin, Nürnberger Strasse (see picture).

Banks were followed by high-technology industry, and Lichtwer Pharma was the first large industrial building installed (4000m² / 43000 sq ft). KaRo systems allowed to save a whole technical floor. Then KaRo Systems was considered as a reference in all Europe.

So, these installations gave fast good satisfactions, and the KaRo system developed to become very fast besides the Rhine (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) the absolute reference in air conditioning and in energy saving.

This standard of comfort also developed then in the Netherlands, and was followed in all Europe, with realizations such as the administrative center of Nestlé France in Noisiel (30 000 m² / 320 000 sq ft of floor space), the Provence House in Lausanne, or the offices of Hewlett Packard in Geneva.

The development was particularly clear in Geneva where numerous banking institutions are present. Swiss laws on energy savings also played their roles, pushing neglected traditional conceptions for the benefit of thrifty systems in energy as the KaRo systems.

In 1989, the Swiss Appelsa firm became privileged partner of KaRo for Switzerland and France. Since the closure of Appelsa Suisse, KaRo settled down to Ferney-Voltaire (near Geneva). The "Avis Technique" for capillary is obtained in 2002 for France.

Since 2002, KaRoSystèmes became a department of Sodimagaz.

The sales manager for capillary mat department is Alain BEL.
The sales manager for KaRo CU department is Alain BEL.
The technical manager for capillary mat and KaRo CU is Marc NUSBAUMER.
Both systems are distributed by Sodimagaz.

Today, KaRo is present in numerous European countries (Spain, Portugal, Greece, etc.) and even except Europe, with notably contacts in United States and in Brazil. KaRo China moreover had his first large order to Beijing 30.000 m ² / 320 000 sq ft in partnership with Clestra (see Links)

Technical Improvements

In 1992, the KaRo system was made even more operational by an innovation in the field of the prefabrication: the fast joins CC: "Click and Cool" who allow to realize the hydraulic connections by simple fitting, without weld nor brasure.

It was also completed in 1996 by the series C copper, used there where particular requirements of protection of fire are asked.

A partnership was signed with the Company SAS International http://www.sasint.co.uk/ with a specific Avis Technique developed with them. Avis technique Adobe document link

Several variants were born :

The ceiling Placo T+ was so born in 1997 developed in partnership with Placoplâtre® (cf. Partners). All the range of the Placoplâtre® ceilings can be equipped with capillary mat KaRo taken in sandwich between the plate of ceiling and a 35 mm insulation

It becomes possible to realize under construction dry and low-cost, acoustic ceilings with micro-perforation, with which we can warm and air-condition.

In 2005, the Swiss company BASWA acoustic AG developed an acoustic ceiling integrating the capillary mat. It is about the acoustic ceiling KaRo (cf. Partners) www.baswa.com . This ceiling is constituted by acoustic plate prefabricated, of only 15 mm in thickness. It is fixed to the paving stone concrete then KaRo mat is fastened and the acoustic filler is thrown on the set patches / mats.

Future

New partnerships are at present envisaged, notably with the club Promodul as well as with the manufacturer of pre-paving stones. Other partnerships are also considered in China and in the USA, our company being rapidly growing.

With its weak congestion, its weak energy consumption and its trump cards in thermal comfort / quality of the internal air. KaRo system is well placed to become the European reference in terminal equipments of air conditioning.

The concept of thermoactives buildings is developing in parallel with the price energies. A thermoactive building is often for positive energy, with a strong slowness. The management and the control of the temperature of every zone are perfectly brought under control in the ceiling solution but it is difficult for the solution by the floor.

The ceiling KaRo is more efficient, more powerful and easier to regulate with a weak slowness.
